I’m Luke.
I like birds because of the headspace they bring
To see them properly, you have to be outside.
To notice them, you have to put your phone away.
And to hear them, you can’t have anything else playing.
No headphones.
No background noise.
Just eyes and ears open.
That’s a rare thing now.
Birds pull you back into what’s actually happening around you.
You start listening for the next song without realising you’ve slowed down.
And the best bit is, you don’t have to go anywhere special.
You don’t need a ticket.
You don’t need a weekend away.
They’re already all around us, in gardens, on streets, in fields, on walks you already take.
The more you watch, the more you notice.
Different personalities.
Different sounds.
Different habits.
They start to feel familiar.
I draw birds because they’ve become a symbol of that space for me.
That feeling of freedom at the start of the weekend.
That moment where things ease off a bit.
