The Old Field Crow is a handmade wire crow sculpture, created from black annealed wire by Shropshire-based artist Luke Western.
Freestanding and full of character, each piece is made to order, with subtle variations in shape, stance and expression that make every crow unique. The open wire form gives the sculpture a light, sketch-like quality, almost like a drawing lifted from the page and shaped into something wild.
Inspired by the watchful crows seen in fields, hedgerows and quiet rural spaces, The Old Field Crow captures a familiar moment of British wildlife in wire. Its lowered head and planted stance give the piece a thoughtful, observant quality, as though it has just landed and is studying the ground beneath it.
The sculpture is left unvarnished, allowing the material to age naturally over time. Indoors, it will develop gently. Outdoors, it will weather more quickly, adding patina, texture and character as the elements leave their mark.
