The Listening Hare is a handmade wire hare sculpture, created from mixed copper, silver and black wire by Shropshire-based artist Luke Western.

Freestanding and full of character, this seated hare has a quiet, watchful presence, as though it has paused mid-field to listen. The open wire form gives the sculpture a light, sketch-like quality, almost like a drawing lifted from the page and shaped into something wild.

Each piece is handmade to order in Shropshire, so every sculpture will vary slightly in shape, stance and expression. These small differences are part of the charm, giving each hare its own personality.

Inspired by one of Britain’s most familiar countryside creatures, The Listening Hare captures a gentle moment of British wildlife in wire. It is designed as a distinctive piece of handmade wildlife art for shelves, mantels, windowsills, studios, garden rooms or nature-loving homes.

The sculpture is left unvarnished, allowing the materials to age naturally over time. Indoors, it will develop gently. Outdoors, it will weather more quickly, adding patina, texture and character as the elements leave their mark.
