The Secret Forager is a handmade wire hedgehog sculpture, created from mixed wire by Shropshire-based artist Luke Western.
Freestanding and full of character, this hedgehog stands upright on two legs, adding a curious, quietly charming quality to the piece. Each sculpture is made to order, with subtle variations in shape, stance and expression that make every hedgehog unique.
The open wire form gives the sculpture a light, sketch-like quality, almost like a drawing lifted from the page and shaped into something wild. The layered wirework creates the impression of the hedgehog’s spines, while the upright pose gives the piece a sense of alertness and personality.
Inspired by one of Britain’s most loved garden visitors, The Secret Visitor captures a small moment of British wildlife in wire. It is designed as a distinctive piece of handmade wildlife art for shelves, mantels, windowsills, studios, garden rooms or nature-loving homes.
The sculpture is left unvarnished, allowing the materials to age naturally over time. Indoors, it will develop gently. Outdoors, it will weather more quickly, adding patina, texture and character as the elements leave their mark.
