MUTE SWAN
 
The Mute Swan is a beautiful and graceful bird that can be found in rivers, lakes, and ponds throughout the UK. It has a distinctive appearance, with a long, curved neck, an orange bill with a black knob at the base, and white plumage. Its wingspan can reach up to 2.4 meters, making it one of the largest flying birds in the world.
 
Mute Swans are highly territorial and will fiercely defend their nesting sites against intruders. They build large nests made of reeds, grasses, and other materials, and can lay up to 8 eggs at a time. The cygnets, or baby swans, are born with grey downy feathers and can swim within a few hours of hatching.
 
The Mute Swan has been a part of British culture for centuries and is often associated with royalty and elegance.
